Taxidermy Restoration
Two by Two Taxidermy’s restoration side truly sets us apart in this industry; we offer a full range of services for mounts of all kinds.
Restoration work is unique to each piece, as it poses unique challenges every time; some examples include.
Structural repair: let’s say your mount fell off the wall, and the antlers broke off, the head snapped off, or it has a busted-up nose. You need restoration for taxidermy.
Even with new mounts, things can fall and break during transport or hanging. We can definitely help with that.
The most common is older mounts that are falling apart, there are many factors that contribute to this such as, age, where the mount was stored and poor outdated taxidermy practices to name a few.
With old mounts a very common issue is small and large cracks throughout the hide, in about 95% of cases we can make these disappear.
Fading and paint issues, for trophy rooms natural light and UV rays are a big long term enemy to your mounts, the hair will get a faded and paled look and in some cases appear bleached.
This is common occurrence that we see and a solution we offer is the animal can be completely repainted to a natural appearance. Other less extensive solutions are handled on a frequent basis from cracking in the paint and hide especially around the eyes, lips and nose to rebuilding and attaching broken tails, claws, teeth and hooves.

We encounter situations where mounts have been stored for a long time in not-so-favorable environments such as attics, storage units, and sheds that are not climate-controlled. These situations have a very poor effect on mounts, bugs and other pests can destroy mounts undisturbed and poor air flow coupled with high temperatures set the stage for hide cracking and separation. However issues like this can usually be fixed depending on the severity of the situation.
Taxidermy restoration work is very difficult to diagnose what steps need to be taken until we physically can touch and see it; with that in mind, we can’t provide an exact estimate until we are there for restoration and major repairs, however, we can usually give you a “ballpark” number over the phone with some good pictures from you. Then we can get a better idea on how to proceed with your taxidermy restoration.
Pictures of some simple and common taxidermy restoration projects can be seen below. These range from a simple one-hour job to an extensive repair that takes 10+ hours.
